Language and Play

Language and Play (LAP) is a short programme for parents and carers in Wales who have children aged 0-3 years. The LAP programme aims to share ideas and activities over six sessions and will help you realise how important you are to your child’s education.
Did you know?
Hearing lots of songs, rhymes and stories
makes a difference to young children.
The earliest months and years are very important – cuddling, playing, singing and talking all help develop a child’s brain.
Young children find it easy to learn more than one language. As soon as they hear Welsh or any other language, they begin to pick up words and phrases.
When they start school children feel more confident if they can join in singing with their teacher and classmates.
The Language and Play programme share ideas and activities over six sessions. It will help you realise how important you are to your child’s education.

Why is it important?
Being a parent is the most important and challenging job in your life. We believe you are your child’s first and most important education.
We want to share some ideas that will make a real difference to both you and your baby or young child.
To give your child a great start, try cuddles, talk, rhymes, sharing a story each day and playing together. All of these are absolutely free!
Making the most of ordinary situations can change your child’s life. You are in the best position to give time, stimulation and warmth.
Why is it important to do this?
Because you’re worth it!
