Numbers and Play

Number and Play (NAP) is a short programme for parents and carers in Wales who have children aged 1 – 3 years. It follows on from LAP and offers information, ideas and tips on counting, numbers, shapes, sizes and time.

Did you know?
Young children begin to learn to count
from everyday experiences:
counting the stairs, sharing biscuits…

Young children begin to learn the sequence of numbers through rhymes, songs and games…

Talking about numbers, shapes and sizes helps children learn about the world around them.

The Number and Play programme shares ideas and activities over five sessions. It will help you understand how important you are to your child’s education.

What is involved?
The Language and Play team in Monmouthshire can support your group through training and resources.

Who is it for?
Children and families
Carers
Playgroups
Family Centres
Baby clinics
Parent and toddler grouos
Nursery schools
Link-up groups
Parenting groups
Community groups
Childminders

Why is NAP important?
From birth children are like sponges soaking up words, skills and experiences.

We want to share some ideas with you that will make maths fun for both you and your child.

We know that many parents did not enjoy maths at schools but numbers are part of our lives.

You are in the best position to give your child time, stimulation and fun.

If you do, your child will have that extra bit of confidence when starting nursery or school.

Making the most of everyday situations can change your child’s life.

If you would like more information about the NAP programme or would like to train to run a NAP programme, please contact Beth Watkins, Language and Play Co-ordinator for Monmouthshire on 01873 735015 or e-mail info@monmouthshirelap.org.uk
